What are some thing you did as a child that you would never let you child do today?!

Things have changed in our world so much so, that growing up as a kid isn't the same these days?

For example, when I was a kid, at about the age of eight, my mom dropped my friend and I off at the theater and paid for us to see the movie H.R. Pufnstuf and left us for the day. I think my friend and I watched the movie four or five times in a row. We were left to run around in the theater all day while my mom was out running around town and my dad was working. My friend and I had a blast and we loved the experience but I would never drop my kids at that age at a theater today to see a movie, let alone stay for the day.



A real life Witchiepoo (evil character from the movie) might get our children. We wouldn't think twice about leaving our kids at eight years of age at a movie alone today, no way is that going to happen. We don't have Freddy the talking flute to help us out (another character from the movie).

Another thing I did as a child is I drank out of the garden hose. I don't let my children drink from the garden hose today. Of course we have grey water for irrigation coming out of half our hoses, but I don't let them drink from the hoses connected to the house either. They might not remember some time and drink from the grey water or they could catch something from the filtered water garden hose coming from the house.



We rode everywhere in cars with no seat belts, and when they were installed in our cars they were generally lost into the gap between the seat and the back of the seat. Everyone wears a seatbelt now and until they get to be big enough they are in a booster seat.



We rode in the back of my fathers truck all the time. Somtimes we rode from California to Utah and back in a Camper Shell in the back of a truck in the winter time.



I'd maybe allow this for a short off-road ride or a short ride around the neighborhood but would drive very carefully. No standing up or trying to move around.

We walked to school when we were growing up. In fact when I was in high school I walked across an interstate 80 overpass to get from my home to school or to get from school to home. Now we drive our children to and from school and rarely let them walk home. If we do let them walk home we know they are with a group a friends and know when they left the school and when they should be home by. Or sometimes we walk to school or home from school with our children.

I stopped by the office of a good friend and he had this Bingo card hanging on the outside of his door and I said I've got have a copy of that....

In Honor and Rememberence - Veteran's Day 2008

Today we remember and honor those men and women of our armed forces. Throughout our great nation's history these are they who have sacrificed their personal interests and in some cases their lives to keep America safe and free.


We honor all those veterans who served our country honorably and in some cases given a full measure of devotion to our country and who have moved on to their eternal rest.
I'd like to honor my father who served in the United State Air Force. Through his honorable service I got to attend many different schools while I was growing up. He has been a great inspiration and example to my family.Let's not forget those brave souls currently serving in harm's way all over the world to protect and defend this great nation and the families they have left behind. I hope they feel a bit more appreciated and loved today. May God bless them all!

What do you do with all your kids candy?

Okay Halloween's come and gone, what do you do with your children's candy that they get from trick or treating?! This is a picture of McKay doing some covert operation before we went out trick or treating. He was dressed up as an army guy. We have some friends that charge a tax on their candy. So they pick our what they want and call it a tax.

I was able to get Cassie to sit still just for a moment before she went off with her friend to trick or treat together. We have another friend that let's there kids pick out 10 pieces of candy a week. The do this until the candy is gone.
This is how I dressed for Halloween last night. We have our children get all of their candy out and we sort through it with them to make sure it is all good. After that, I let them know that I would like any candy with coconut or any dark chocolate candy that they do not like. I ate a few almond joys and mounds last night.

Where we used to live we would go through so many bags of candy that we would end up raiding our children's candy to meet the demand. This year we bought some candy to hand out at a special trick or treating they have for the workers children at our work. I had a lot left over from that experience. Usually I would run out, but I work in a different spot this year, which I call "Middle Earth" where I think people have to go out of their way to find my office. Then we had a good supply for our home and we didn't seem to get that many trick or treaters last night even though we were handing out the candy by the handful.

I've heard of another parent that takes all the children's candy and then rewards their children if they eat a good supper. Just wondering what you do?

Fox Hollow Golf

On Thursday, I left work a little early and went golfing with a neighbor friend of mine. Both of our daughter's work at the golf course at the snack place called the Fox's Den. Since the weather was so nice we planned to go golfing before the weather takes a turn for the worse. It seemed as though in Sept. we would have a long drawn out Winter because it was cold early on. Just this last week the weather has warmed up and we are having 70 degree weather at the end of Oct. So it was an opportunity that we felt we couldn't pass on.I have three things I did well on this golf outing. I made two long putts, probably between 25 and 30 ft. and I finished one hole on par. It was a 3 par hole. It's a good thing we praticed putting before we hit the front nine. It is nice getting out for a round of golf. There were two men paired up with us and on the 9th hole one of them got pretty upset and threw his club about thirty or forty feet. I told my neighbor that probably wouldn't ever be me because I'm not that good.
